Andaman & Nicobar
Located in the middle of the Andaman Sea, over 850 miles from the Indian mainland, this former penal colony, is today far easier to get to and from. Of its 572 islands, only 36 are inhabited, with even fewer open to travellers, so as to protect its delicate ecosystem and indigenous tribespeople. Identified by their palm-lined, white sandy beaches, and azure waters, you’ll find elephants, sharks, dolphins, whales, crocodiles, and the very rare Narcondam Hornbill amidst these tropical rainforests, mangroves, and coral reefs. The Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, located off the western coast of the South Andaman Island, is perfect for snorkelling and diving. Travel between the months of October and May, for the best weather.
