Chittorgarh
Famed for its millennia-old Chittorgarh Fort, built by Chitrangada Mori of the Maurya dynasty, which hugs the surrounding hilltop for 112 km. Located in north-west Rajasthan, it is a fascinating and ancient visit on-route to or from Udaipur. For the best views, climb the nine-story Vijay Stambh or ‘The Tower of Victory’, built by Rana Kumbha in 1448 to commemorate his victory over the armies of Malwa and Gujarat. For the best weather, travel between October and March.
