Gujarat
India’s westernmost state, Gujarat has to be one of its most diverse. Steeped in history (and still making it) this is the state Gandhi traversed along his revolutionary Salt March and the birthplace of India’s fourteenth prime minister, Narendra Modi. Also home to arguably the country’s most colourful textile traditions, turning the alabaster deserts of the Great Rann of Kutch into a riot of colour. For wildlife enthusiasts Gir National Park and Sasan Gir Sanctuary are the only place in the country you’ll find the Asiatic lion, and it’s one of the best places to spot flamingos. The best time to visit is between November and February.
