Spiti
At over 4500 m above sea level, the lofty Kunzum Pass separates the pastoral lands of Lahaul and Spiti. Something of a Tibetan outpost in India, the Spiti Valley is scattered with Buddhist monasteries, including the Kye Monastery, which at an altitude of over 4100 m makes up a portion of the Kanamo Trek. Lying astride the glistening Spiti River this ‘mini-Ladakh’, as it is sometimes known, attracts far fewer tourists. Best visited between June and September.
