Tripura
Surrounded on three sides by Bangladesh, Tripura has a diverse mix of tribal cultures and religious groups. Far from India’s well-trodden tourist trail, Tripura is a quiet and slow-placed visit, which might appeal to many travellers. Within its capital, Agartala, travellers can visit the impressive Ujjayanta Palace and Gedu Mia’s Mosque. South of the city, Neermahal summer palace sits in the middle of Lake Rudrasagar: a blend of Hindu and Islamic architectures. Of special interest, the archaeological site of Unakoti is a possible overnight trip, or stop en route to or from Assam. Best visited between October and May.
