Ranikhet

Meaning ‘Queen’s Meadow’ in Hindi, Ranikhet derives its name from local legend, in which Raja Sudhardev won the heart of his queen, Rani Padmini, who chose this spot for its pristine beauty, as her residence. Spread across two ridges: Ranikhet and Chaubattia, each with far reaching views of the Himalayas. Located at an elevation of 1869 m, Ranikhet enjoys a cool climate throughout the year, though March and June are the best months to visit. Home to vibrant Kumaoni tribal communities, it is also a known for the Jhuala Devi Temple, which, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga, is known for its hundreds of bells, and is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage destination.
